Generator Fire

This insurance claim, based in a developing country, involved the total loss of a generator by fire just prior to handover. It required detailed consideration by the RHP adjuster, of the most economic method of replacement, particularly bearing in mind the long lead time for a new replacement generator. The potentially large Advanced Loss Of Profits claim clearly had an influence in the planning and scope of remedial works. This problem was solved by sourcing an existing replacement generator in the world market, although this required certain modification.

The generator was dispatched by sea to the loss site. Associated equipment for the modifications, when manufactured, was subsequently air freighted to the nearest airport. In so doing the delay in commissioning the generator was kept to a minimum, resulting in significant savings.
