Transformer Failure

The generator transformer at a coal fired power station failed in service. The initial expectation was that the cause of the loss was a generic fault, not untypical for the particular generation of transformer.
A controlled strip-down of the transformer was undertaken. RHP attended the site at various times during this process and ultimately was able to establish that the failure occurred through sudden and unforeseen circumstances and liability engaged.

Meanwhile, business interruption had been mitigated through the installation of a strategic spare, which was put into service within four weeks of the failure.
