Gas Turbine Compressor Damage

The loss of blading in a gas compressor can make a real mess of a turbine.  This was the case in a claim we handled, where an inlet guide vane at Stage 4 became detached, causing impact damage and blade loss throughout the compressor.  Debris went through the combustion system, causing further damage in the power turbine to the much more expensive early stage blading.

Although the damage was extensive, we worked with the Insured and the OEM to oversee a repair within just over three months.  This still resulted in a significant business interruption loss, but monitoring and driving of the programme of repairs ensured there were no further surprises for all interested parties.
